EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




BRAUGHTON, PETER, was born July 6, 1812, in Worcester county, Mass. His parents moved to Ross county, O., in 1816, and a few years later to Pickaway county, about ten miles south of Columbus. In 1836 Peter came to Springfield, Ill., and soon after settled in what is now Williamson township. He was married in Sangamon county Sept. 30, 1846, to Mary D. Utterback. They have four children, all born in Sangamon county, namely - Susan E., Nancy A., Emily F. and Thomas F.

Peter Braughton resides in Williams township, three miles each from Sherman and Barclay.
