EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




CASSITY, WILLIS, brother to Alexander, was born Jan. 2, 1805, in Bath county, Ky. He was married there Jan. 24, 1827, to Nancy Cartmell. They had two children in Kentucky, and moved to Sangamon county, arriving at Springfield Oct. 10, 1829. They had one child in Sangamon county. Of their children--

JAMES W., born in Kentucky, died at twenty years of age.

ELIZABETH, born in Kentucky, married John Parsons. He died August, 1872, leaving a widow and six children, near Salisbury.

LEVI, born Jan. 1, 1836, in Sangamon county, enlisted Oct. 20, 1861, in Co. B, 10th Ill. Cav., for three years. As a non-commissioned officer he commanded a section of one of the batteries attached to the regiment at the battle of Prairie Grove, Ark., Dec. 7, 1862, and lost his left arm in that engagement. He was discharged on account of physical disability, Dec. 31, 1862. Levi Cassity was married April 23, 1863, to Nancy Drennan. They have one child, JOHN F., and live three and a half miles southeast of Chatham.

Willis Cassity, after coming to Sangamon county, lived a few years in Logan county, and a few years in Missouri. He and his wife now live in Ball township.
