EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




DAVIS, RICHARD, was born April, 1800, in Kentucky. Elizabeth Neal, (sister to Mrs. Edward Williams. See his name.), was born about 1803, in Nelson county, Ky. They were married and had one child in Kentucky, and the family moved to Sangamon county, arriving before the deep snow of 1830-31, in Springfield. They had three children in Sangamon county. Of their four children--

GEORGE L., died unmarried in 1856.

DIANA, born July 16, 1832, in Springfield, married Nov. 8, 1855, to Philip Loeb, who was born Oct. 15, 1831, in Baden, Germany. They had three living children, PHILIP E., MARY C. and ARTHUR R. Philip Loeb died Sept. 17, 1866, in Springfield, and his widow and children live four and a half miles northwest of Springfield.

JOHN H., born Feb., 1836, is unmarried, and resides with his sister, Mrs. Loeb.

JAMES E. married Rosella Lagrange. They have two children, and live in Springfield.

Mrs. Elizabeth Davis died March, 1850, and Richard Davis died April, 1865, both in Springfield.
