These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




DELAY, JOHN, was born in Virginia, taken by his parents to Bath county, Ky., and was there married to Elizabeth Branch, a sister to Edward Branch. See his name. She was born Nov. 25, 1785, near Lynchburg, Va. They had eleven children in Bath county, and moved to Sangamon county, Ill., in 1829, and settled near Rochester. Of their children--

SARAH married in Kentucky to Thomas Baker. See his name.

JANE died in Kentucky, aged eighteen years.

JEMIMA died in Kentucky, aged sixteen years.

JUDITH, born March 8, 1809, in Kentucky, married in Sangamon county to Joseph Williams. See his name.

STEPHEN, born in Kentucky, married in Sangamon county, March 4, 1841, to Susan Baker, had nine children, and he died April 16, 1870. She lives in Cotton Hill township.

ELIZA, born April 19, 1813, in Bath county, Ky., married in Sangamon county to William Taft. See his name.

POLLY, born Jan. 5, 1820, in Bath county, Ky., married in Sangamon county to Samuel Torrence. See his name

ELIZABETH, born in Bath ccunty, Ky., married in Sangamon county to Samuel Keys. See his name.

GREENBERRY, born in Kentucky, died in Sangamon county, aged fifteen years.

ALVIN died in Kentucky, aged eight years.

John Delay died Dec. 23, 1850, and his widow died Oct. 3, 1869, both in Sangamon county.
