EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




LAUGHLIN, JOHN, was born in 1757, place not known, and was married in South Carolina to Elizabeth Orr, who was born in 1779. They went to Caldwell county, Ky., and had eight children there, and moved to Sangamon county, Ill., arriving in 1828, in what is now Ball township. Of their children--

MARGARET, born in Kentucky, married in Sangamon county to William S. Viney. See his name.

WILLIAM L. married Isabel Holland, and both died without children in Sangamon county.

JANE married Matthew Crowder. See his name.

LEWIS A. married; has five children, and lives near New London, Iowa.

THOMAS married Nancy Lowrey. They had two children. He was a practicing physician, and died in Clinton, Ill., leaving his family there.

JOHN married Catharine Lowrey. He died, leaving a widow in Ball township.

JAMES died, aged eleven years.

ISABEL, born in Caldwell county, Ky., married Washington Crowder. See his name.

John Laughlin died Nov., 1829, and his widow died in Feb., 1833, both in Sangamon county.
