These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




UNDERWOOD, WILLIAM, was born and married in Kentucky, and brought his family to Sangamon county, arriving about 1834 at Berlin. They had three children, one of whom died, aged ten years, and Mrs. Underwood died. Their two sons, CHARLES and LYCURGUS, went to their friends, in Kentucky, and went from there, as soldiers, in the Mexican war. William Underwood married for his second wife, Eliza Lemon, and he died in 1840. His widow married John Churchill. See his name.
