EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




WALTERS, GREEN B., was born Oct. 28, 1808, in Jefferson county, Kentucky, and was taken by his parents to Decatur county, Indiana, when he was about thirteen years of age. He came to Sangamon county, Illinois, on a visit, arriving Sept. 15, 1829, at the house of his uncle, George Donner, and remained fourteen months, shaking with the ague. He returned to Indiana and was married Dec. 25, 1833, to Elizabeth Griffiths. He came to Illinois, first stopping in Logan county, and then came to Sangamon county, in 1840, and had nine living children--

MARTHA was drowned, aged twelve years.

MARIA J. married George Walters, and died, leaving one child, RHODA A.

RACHEL C. married John Penick, and lives in Missouri.

JAMES W. is married and lives in Indianapolis.

EMILY A. was married Oct. 22, 1861, to Leonard Ledbrook, who was born at Tipton, Staffordshire, England, and came to Sangamon county in 1859. They have one living child, MINNIE. Mr. Ledbrook is a druggist in Chatham, Illinois, and, with his family, resides there.

MARY N., GEORGE W., JOHN F. and EDWARD BAKER live with their mother.

Green B. Walters died April 12, 1875, and his family lives two miles east of Chatham, Sangamon county, Illinois.
