HIRAM WALKER, money loaner and real estate dealer, Springfield, Illinois, was born in Loudon county, Virginia, April 10, 1811, son of Daniel and Sally (Bail) Walker; mother a native of Pennsylvania, whose parents came over in the ship with William Penn. When a young girl, she went to Loudon county, Virginia, where she grew to womanhood and married. Mr. Walker was of Scotch descent. The subject of this notice was raised on a farm until he was seventeen years old, when he learned the trade of iron worker. In the spring of 1835, he came to Illinois, where he commenced farming. His health failing, he went to Taylorville, Christian county, where he remained ten years; thence to Springfield, where he has been engaged in his present business ever since. Mr. Walker is one of the most extensive dealers in the county; has bought and sold thousands of acres of land, and is at present owner of two thousand acres of improved lands in the county.
