BRITTIN, MARIA

Obituary – Athens Free Press, 28 August 1953

MARIA BRITTIN, 87, DIES; LIFETIME ATHENS RESIDENT

Maria Brittin, 87, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away at the Memorial hospital this Thursday morning at 5:30, where she had been a patient since Tuesday.

Mrs. Brittin had been in gradually failing health over a period of months due to infirmities of age.

She was born in Athens November 1, 1865, the daughter of the late James Madison England and Mary Ann Mott.

Her husband, the late Dr. Albert Leslie Brittin, passed away in October 1930.

The remains were removed to the Mott and Son Funeral Home where burial arrangements are being completed.


CANTERBURY, MRS. J. H.

Obituary - Athens Free Press, 23 May 1952

MRS. J. H. CANTERBURY, 91, CANTRALL RESIDENT, DIES

Mrs. J. H. Canterbury, 91, a long-time resident of Cantrall and prominent in the affairs of the community until recent years, passed away in Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 16, where she had been a patient for several days. She was the widow of the late John H. Canterbury, who passed away in 1946, and the mother of Clair E. and J. Harold Canterbury, both of the Cantrall community.

She was a charter member of Cantrall's Women's Club and a member of the West Side Christian Church in Springfield.

Those to survive are the two sons, Clair E. and J. Harold Canterbury, both of Cantrall: seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mott and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Florence, pastor of the Athens Christian Church, in charge. Burial was made in Indian Point cemetery.


CANTRALL, GUY

Obituary – Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, 5 September 1959

ILLIOPOLIS – Guy Cantrall, 69, of San Pedro, Calif., formerly of Illiopolis, died Wednesday at San Pedro.

He is survived by his wife, Daisey; two sons, Robert of Louisville, Ky., and Gene of Long Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Violet Peterson, Springfield; one brother, Wilbur of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Myra Baldridge, Carlinville; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Guy, Jr.

Remains will be received by Pritchett Funeral Home of Illiopolis.

Mr. Cantrall was born in Illiopolis, son of Lev G. and Ella Norred Cantrall, and he was married to Daisey Atkinson.


ENGLAND, MISS FLORA

Obituary - Athens Free Press, 3 April 1953

MISS FLORA ENGLAND, 80, DIED SAT. AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Miss Flora England, 80, of Williamsville, formerly of Cantrall, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 16, 1872, near Cantrall, a daughter of Henry and Mary Price England.

Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Rena Claypool of Williamsville, Mrs. Gladys Flagg of Sherman, and Mrs. Clara Grant of Easton; a brother, William England of R.R. 5 Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

The remains were removed to the Mott and Son Funeral Home, Athens, where services were held at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. Robert Green officiated. Burial was made in the Brittin Cemetery near Cantrall.


WARREN, EVERETT B.

Obituary - Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, 18 February 1953

Everett B. Warren, 65, of Buffalo, died at 12:45 a.m. yesterday at his residence.

Mr. Warren, a native of Illiopolis, was born July 20, 1887, the son of the late Franklin and Mary Warren. He was married to Miss Stella Simpson in Springfield on April 6, 1910.

He was a member of the Christian church and of the Modern Woodmen of America. Surviving are his wife; a son, Lynn, of Rochester; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Reynolds; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Northland, Mrs. Rose Stice, and Mrs. Verna Seaman, all of Springfield; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Pritchett funeral home, Illiopolis. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
