MITCHELL, VIOLA R.

Obituary – Illinois State Journal Register, Springfield, Illinois, 19 September 1979

Mrs. Viola R. Mitchell, 69, of 5 Forrest Ridge, died at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday at Springfield Community Hospital.

She formerly owned Mitchell’s Market at 1219 W. Ash St., retiring in 1964. Her husband, Harley, died in 1973. Born in Springfield, Mrs. Mitchell was a member of South Side Christian Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. R. Thomas (Sally) Whitlock of Springfield; one brother, Richard Fox of Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Otken and Mrs. Margaret Reed, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Bisch Memorial Home is in charge of arrangement.

SCROGGIN, ARCHIE

Obituary – Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, 25 June 1973

Archie Scroggin, of 1110 Ridgely Ave., was dead on arrival at St. John’s Hospital at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Surviving are the wife, Gladys; one son, Jack, of Springfield; and two grandchildren.

He was born near Illiopolis and resided in Springfield 35 years. He was also a veteran of World War II.

SCROGGINS, WILLIAM

Obituary – Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, 15 January 1973

William H. Scroggins, 59, of 124 W. Jefferson, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital.

Surviving is his wife, Sally.

He was born in Auburn, the son of John W. and Margaret Crays Scroggins and resided in Springfield most of his life. He was a retired plastering contractor. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Staab Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
