MAXWELL - Maxwell is a township of recent origin, having been set off from Loami in March, 1899. It comprises a part of government township 14 north and parts of ranges 7 and 8 west. It is bounded on the north by New Berlin, east by Loami, south by Talkington and west by Morgan county. Topographically considered, the township is over three-fourths prairie, the remainder being timber, and is watered in its northern portion by the far reaching branches of Lick creek. It is crossed diagonally from northeast to southwest by the Peoria and St. Louis railway, or "Bluff Line," on which is located Maxwell station, the local seat of trade. The history of this township is identified with that of Loami.
