EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY - 1876

These biographies were submitted by a researcher and evidently abstracted from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, IL. Errors could occur, so one should always verify the correctness by obtaining copies of vitals and performing all necessary research to document what is contained herein.




HARLAN, JOHN C., was born April 18, 1815, in Cecil county, Md.; came to what is now Ball township, Sangamon county, April 2, 1839. He remained one year, returned to Maryland, came to Sangamon county the second time, traveling all the way in a wagon, and most of the time alone. He was married in Ball township, east of Chatham, July 11, 1843, to Lydia A. White, who was born Sept. 3, 1825. They moved to the vicinity of Waverly, Morgan county, and had nine living children there. Of their children--

LOUIS E., born April 13, 1844, married Dec. 25, 1872, in Shelby county, Ill., to Susan Humphreys, and resides near Buckley, Ill.

JOHN C. and WILLIAM P., twins, born Jan. 2, 1848, reside with their parents.

JOANNA, born Oct. 21, 1850, married William R. Megredy, Oct. 8, 1872. See his name.

SARAH A., born Sept. 24, 1852, GEORGE F., born Sept. 20, 1856, CHARLES O., born Sept. 17, 1858, MARY L., born March 11, 1861, and ELMER E., born July 11, 1863, all reside with their parents.

John C. Harlan moved in March, 1868, to the vicinity of Buckley, Iroquois county, Ill., and now--1876--resides there.
