Peter North was a soldier in the war with England in 1812. In 1819 or '20, he moved to Jefferson county, near Dandridge, Tennessee, taking with him six children. The second son, John, whose name heads this sketch, was there married, September 22, 1828, to Anna Giger, who was born November 4, 1807, in that county. They came to Sangamon county, Illinois, arriving April 12, 1829, in what is now Cooper township, north of the Sangamon river.
